Housing in Action

Planned Giving

What sort of legacy do you want to leave behind? We can help you create one that helps further housing justice long after you’re gone. Contact Paul Vliem, Resources & Relationships Director, at 612-758-0024 or PaulV@housinginaction.org to make an appointment and explore what you can do.

Three individuals at a Minneapolis-St. Paul construction site discuss equitable housing opportunities, embodying empowerment and community connection. One person speaks passionately, holding papers, while the others, smiling and attentive, engage in the conversation about dignified and affordable homes. Exposed wood frames and insulation materials highlight the collaborative progress toward housing justice in the Twin Cities.

Retirement Account Beneficiary

Typically, retirement assets left to individuals in an estate leave those individuals with a tax burden when the funds are received. Naming an organization like Housing in Action as a beneficiary (anywhere from 1% to 100%) makes a tremendous investment in housing justice while avoiding a significant tax burden for your loved ones. When reviewing estate plans with your attorney and financial advisor, consider leaving your IRA, 401k, or other retirement asset(s) to Housing in Action!

A passionate advocate, wearing a plaid shirt, stands at a podium, illuminated in a spotlight, speaking into a microphone. They hold papers and address the audience on empowering equitable housing solutions that advance community connection and justice in the Twin Cities.

Give From Your IRA

If you have an IRA account and are older than 70 1/2, you can make direct transfers from your IRA to an organization like Housing in Action. These are smart, powerful gifts; with a direct transfer from your IRA to Housing in Action, you never pay taxes on the money. You are able to send up to $111,000 in this type of gift (called Qualified Charitable Distributions, or QCD’s) per person per year. To make a QCD, contact your IRA custodian and let them know that you’d like to donate some or all your IRA distributions to Housing in Action and they will cut the check from your account!

A diverse group of five community advocates stands proudly in front of a building, exuding joy and unity. Four members wear matching blue T-shirts with empowering messages supporting housing justice, while the central figure wears a white shirt. Casually dressed and with two donning gloves, they represent Housing in Action's mission: fostering dignified, affordable housing and promoting community equity in the Twin Cities through empowerment and strong connections.
